Tank Light

i have no live plants in my tank,i know the light is essential for them but as i have none should there be a certain amount of time that the light should be on or is it simply just for show?? and is it best on or off through the night?

Unless you have real plants you dont really need your lights on at all - unless you want to see your fish.

In fact most fish will prefer it without the lights on as its more calming.
At night, I just switch it off - save some energy!
