I repeatedly read about bettas jumping to their death, Jai's tank has a lid, it's not airtight, but it fits and comes with the tank anyway. Does it need holes in it due to the way they breathe? I read about 'secure' lids and have once read about lids suffocating bettas. I'm confused now.

Maybe try reading in the FAQ, it might be there. No offence to you but on the first page alone, you have 9 new topics, maybe try searching for the answer first before making a new topic.

I do read them, I couldn't find out about the lids because the information is conflicting

i donno but to be on the safeside you could make some small holes around the sides

found this in the FAQ section, first one "basic bettas"

Second...LIDS..keep your bettas covered, they DO jump. The lid also serves the purpose of keeping the surface air ,above the water, nice and humid. This is a necessity, if your betta is constantly gasping at cool air it can lead to pneumonia.

It was only because I read some article about the fish suffocating with a lid that it frightened me so that ^^^ is a conflict of what else I read, I was trying to figure out if the lid would need holes in and that ^^^ doesn't say, in fact nowhere says that, so I'm guessing its safe to assume the lid doesn't need holes

unless the lid is totally air tight (which its not going to be in all reality) you dont need extra holes

some of my lids have little feeding holes in them, so that lets air out also.

Thanks, I have a little corner cut off to let the leads into the tank, I guess that helps
