I received a 20 plus year old plexiglass tank from a neighbor. Its 55 gallons. They had not used it in 15 years. It has a du pont paper strip on the bottom, all rounded edges. I noticed today when filling it for the first time it has a leak, in the front seam. I know to buy the fish safe silicon, but wondered if there was anything else I should know before attempting to repair it. I took all the water and gravel out, and wiped down the area of the seams all around. Is it as simple as just applying the sealant to the seam area, and should I just repair the leak area or do the entire tank? Thanks a lot.

A freind of mine the other day told me that the silicone drys out after years and years of no use and the whole tank becomes unstable, if i were you i'd do the whole tank up and not just the leaking parts unless you want it to break when its full.

i would really remove all of the old silicone and reseal it....putting a new layer of silicone over a damaged layer is next to useless...

Thanks you two. I learned another thing. Don't do part of the tank and come back later to finish it. I've had all sorts of issues with the silicon after it dried in the connecter to a degree.
