well my mother went downstairs to find water all over the kitchen floor at 3am. It turned out to be from the 10gallon tank i have. we took the fish and enough water from the tank and put them in a big pot and so far they have survived. it turned out the tank had a huge hairline crack in the middle of the bottom of the tank. now i have not moved the tank since i bought it and filled it last month, so theres no way i could have cracked it. when i bought the tank the gravel was already placed in the tank for me so from what i figure it was already cracked and over the last month it expanded to the point that it finally sprung a leak. i hope my fish make it through all of this ordeal. im going back to the LFS where i got the tank to try to get them to replace it. and if the fish die im holding them accountable also.

Are you sure the surface you kept the tank on was absolutely even/flat and strong enough for the tank? If it wasn't that would explain the crack, even if the tanks been fine for months they can crack still if the surface the tank is on isn't suitable. Have you got the filter from the tank running in the pot the fish are in?

Sorry to hear about the trouble. But I hope you have something running in the pot that you have the fish in, like an areator at the least.

the tank was on the kitchen counter its the strongest and most level thing in my house probably. these counter tops arent old and warped or anything.

haha yeh shes like i always wondered why i get up in the middle of the night and this must be why. i think its cause she likes to late night snack and get a drink of water but w/e the reason im glad she did it last night.

a general rule of thumb is to place a piece of styrofoam the length and breadth of the tank underneath before laying it on anything. Did it have one of those? Otherwise it takes a beating from movement ie people walking or doors opening or closing or agitation from a washing machine, which would be shock absorbed by the styrofoam if there.

good luck! Please update us on ur fishes condition! We r all praying for them! PS. It might b a good idea to check for disaeses too. High stress stiuations for fish easily lead to disease.

well it looks like all of my fish, except for one, are going to be ok. one of the neon tetras seems to have been really traumatized by all that has happened. i added some stress salts so maybe he will come around. thanks for the concern

disaster!!!

sorry to hear about the leak!

pity it never happened in the day lol
