Tank heater way too warm

Seems like you've got a faulty heater. Is it possible to return or exchange it for a new one?

You'll need a heater as these fish will thrive with slightly higher temperatures than room temperature (mid to high 70's)

you should call the manufacturer's support line and tell them what happened. They most likely will just send out a new one and tell you to keep the old one.
