I have had my new tank setup now for 3 days now and everything looks good. At first the water was cloudy but that cleared up today.

I have noticed that on the surface of the water it seems to be a little murky as if there were a layer of dust on it.

Is this normal? :/

two things, it could be the substare if it was not rinsed.

the other I forget, but has to do with extra amounts of something, and you just stir it and it should go away, though your filter should be moving the water around.

Thats the strange thing the filter is moving it around but does not seem to be clearing it.

BTW, what do you mean when you say substare?

Yes it normal, float some kitchen paper in the tank that will remove it.

By substare they mean substrate, or the gravel on the bottom of your tank. I sometimes see a film on top of the water as well. I think it could be some dust, or oil from your hands etc from reaching in the water. As suggested above, float a piece of paper towel on top of the water to try to soak it up if it bothers you.
