HELP!!!

Despite passing an earlier test my tank has now cracked when filling it for real!

There are 2 cracks I can see one runs along the width of the bottom in a straight line, the other curves from the back edge into the middle. See photos

Am I going to be able to fix this? Maybe add a new bottom ontop of the damaged one? (this would have to be made in 4 parts due to narrow opening in top of the tank)

If you could of got a single piece in side then it would of been fine but 4 sealed together...

you could give it a try... as its not actually under that much stress, only downward force.

wat size tank isit

Its about 300l, 4 foot long

A single piece would be impossible due to an inner lid restricting access, I might be able to cover the base in two pieces

I'd bite the bullet and discard this tank. I've heard of successful repairs on cracked bottom panes before, but it's always advised that the new pane you're sticking on top of the cracked one is in one piece covering the whole of the bottom. Then again, the owner of my LFS told me about a repair he'd done this way which resulted in disaster several months down the line - that was with a six footer though, so much more pressure. You could probably patch it and trust it semi-filled it as a turtle tank or something but I'd say it's aquarium days are over.

I'd give it a go. I'd actually take the whole bottom of the glass out rather than try patch it over.

Thanks, going to have to be careful with it, but will give a fix a go I think

My terrapin tank smashed a few weeks ago, the table it was on smashed and then the tank hit the floor. Only the side pannel was smashed. Had it fixed with them back in within 48 hours. Its not that big a job.

I don't think I'd try patching it. I'd replace the broken panel.

I am looking into a full replacement for the panel or creating a new bottom on top or sandwiching the damaged piece. The big problem is the tank is so heavy even when empty that its a pain to move

You must replace the panel, putting one on top or sandwiching the damaged piece is not good.
