I just set up my first cichlid tank with 5 peacocks and 4 yellow labs this week. I am way newbie and guess I didn't think too much about the tank bred vs. F0 (i think it is F0) fish just caught in Africa. Now that they are all swimming around, do the fish directly from Africa behave or interact differently than the tank bred ones I have. Would I enjoy things more if I gave back the ones I bought (I don't want credit back) and bought some fish that were just caught in Africa?

If it is better, cooler, more interesting, etc. I would do it in a heartbeat. Its only a hundred or two or three and not a big deal.

Your opions please.

i'd stick with the tank bred for now. your current fish will probably be more interactive and less shy than recent imports; wild-caughts are generally a bit trickier to feed and may have undergone incomplete quarantine procedures.

i can think of at least one member on here who bought a couple hundred $$ worth wild-caughts through his LFS only to have all of them and his prize plecos drop dead of disease. not only did he recieve no refund on his cichlids, he didn't get any recompense for his plecs either. "buyer beware"...

Blimey! :-( What a loss. I was fortunate enough to get wild africans last year and only lost two. One within 48hours and the other managed to brain itself some weeks later. They now breed and spend alot of time in the open. But to start with they hid up a great deal. If you want to see alot of activity and colour immediately stick with tank bred types.
Hugs,
P.
