I have a Juwel 70 tank as my main show tank, community tank with Rock600 background, gravel & live plants (space restrictions at the moment) but because I've been bitten (by the fishkeeping bug, not the fish :) ) I now have a 12" hospital/breeding tank 2 x 18" fry growing on tanks up and running & a 3ft tank ready to start as soon as I have made space for it but it will not be ideally suited as a 'show' tank. These 4 tanks will become my 'fish house' so will be barebottomed & plastic plants etc.

Once they are setup in the 'fish house' I will be installing lighting above the tanks but may use sliding glass (or similar) covers rather than hoods.

My questions are

1: What is the best colour for the background in a 'fish house'?
2: If all black/blue/green or whatever, do I use spray paint, brush paint or can you buy single colour backgrounds?
3: If paint, what type (gloss, matt or what)?
4: Would it be a good idea to do the sides and/or the bottom as well?
5: As there will be no live plants (other than for 'food'), how long should the lights be on for the fish? I know that stricktly speaking they don't need the light but the area is pather dark all day.

I'd go for black.

You can buy a single colour one or you can paint it. I'd go for the standard stick on background because it's easier to change if you want :good:
