I have posted pictures of my large aquarium before and many people have said it looks great, but would be better with a back ground..

I kind of agree, but have tried different types and always end up removing them, hence my question.

I once painted an aquarium back with dark green paint, and have used those plastic backing things but wondered what you lot use.

Thanks in advance !

I have that plastic wallpaper stuff that you tape to the outside of the tank on two of my tanks and a cardboard cut-out that came with the box of one of the tanks. they all have a different scene but they are all of a lake bottom or river bottom scene. The tape-on wallpaper stuff are both two-sided and different scenes on them, on one of them it is a wall of stone like a cliff-face.

Ive got some polystrene wooden root effects on my trop tank, all you do is silicone it to the back of the tank, its gives a gr8 3D effect, looks better when algae starts to grow on it as well, cost a tenner for the 2 pieces.

I just tape a black garbage bag to the back of it. You get a bit of the shine, without the full gloss of the ones you buy at a store.

I use limo black window tint on the back and two sides of my planted tank. Really like the way it looks, you can see through the sides into the tank but cannot see through the back.

Another cheapskate- black bin bag, courtesy of Soton City Council. My new hospital tank has a mirror though- yuk!

I think a plaine blue background looks best...but tahts only me.
