got home today and my tank was at 30 celcius,

how do i keep the tank cool????

i`ve poped a couple of ice packs in, taken the lid off and set a fan running across the tank and added the air pump.

whaty else can i do?

Don't bother cooling it down with ice, it will just stress the fish with the temp being up and down.
I keep the room cool with a fan, and turn aeration up quite abit and they will get through it.

the ice packs won`t drop the temp that fast as theyre the type for cool boxes and don`t cool the tank uber fast but should hopefully keep the temp down a couple of degrees for a couple of hours, the tank is relatively understocked any way as most of the fish are juvies, and well airiated,

hi as ive mentioned in another thread we start freezing empty cool drink bottles washed & filled with water in summer and chuck a couple in our tank when it gets really hot....works a treat & when theyve melted i just rinse the outside & refreeze so we've always got a ready supply
also turn up the airpump to increase oxygenation.
if its getting really hot turning your lights off will help to.....lots of lfs do the same thing when it gets hot.

Turn the heater down.

heater's on a thermostat, it only comes on if the temp drops below whatever it's set at..... so it doesn't make any odds if it's on or off, if it's too hot it just won't come on :)

i had the same problem here today. I ended up syphoning some water out and got some ice cubes and put it in the water. I then syphoned the water straight back into the tank.right by the filter so it shot it all back out again. The fish didnt mind and they were more active after and they had minimum stress involved with the slow movement of water. My 220 litre tank remained at 27 lol. The temperature is incapable of changing. It was the 10 litre tank which was a bit of a job to sort out! The plants grew like wild though in the warm temperature. All the new shoots grew 1cm!

How did everyone else do it?

I am having the exact same problem! My tank has been 29-30 degrees for the last week! All windows are open, heater has been swicthed off and have done cooler water changes which lasted all of 20 minutes before temp shot up again!!! Luckily I have only lost one fish so far. I have also tried a fan, but it just blows hot air around! :/

Will try the frozen bottle idea :good:
