I brought a potted tall hair gras plant off ebay for my tank, it arrived green and looked in good condition with plenty of new growths on its ends. I removed the pot and split into small sections and planted in my substrate i have plant substrate called columbo and small fine black gravel on top. Its covered the front right hand corner with this, my danios like swimming through it.

I have few problems it is going brown from the roots, i thought i planted it to deep so ive lifted it to pant loosly in the top gravel but it keeps coming out and exposing the roots on small places.
Also they were delivered ealry and beofre i went away for a week holiday so they had no lights on for that first week.

90l tank
2 x 25w full spectrum & super glo
Columbo under substrate
I dosed with 10ml fetiliser on sunday 18th july and directions recommend every two weeks. this plant fertiliser came with the substrate.
No co2 but have seen a liquid co2 bottle i could get and put some in daily.

My Nymphaea Rubra is growing well and has 3 stalks and leaves already.

So my question is how to get the hair grass green again

Dose the liquid carbon.
Wasn't aware that Colombo did a fertiliser.. anywho, get yourself some Tropica Plant Nutrition+. Dose this and the liquid carbon daily. With good flow, that should take care of nutrients and CO2.
The next thing would be to prune the hairgrass. Leaving about 1inch about the gravel. New growth should come back green. Creating new leaves takes less energy than repairing old leaves.

Hello Thanks for your quick response.

The stuff that came with my substrate is called Flora- grow liquid by columbo, do i need another plant feed liquid.

It says Liquid plantfertiliser, contains iron preparation, minerals and trace elements.

I also have some vallis, 10 java fern, 5 amazon swords, Anubias Nana,Riccia fluitans,Hygrophila polysperma,10 Twisted Vallis,Flame moss, on order to arrive next week. Ive read thst vallis dose not like easy carbo is there another that would suit my plants.

The flame moss is goign onto a large piece of bog wood, ive just relised that i will need to attach the java fern to something as well. The riccia fluitans is on a wire pad.

All liquid carbon is virtually the same stuff. Whether it be Easycarbo or Excel.
If you do dose liquid carbon or inject CO2 then you will need another liquid fert because the added CO2 will increase the plants demand for macro nutrients (NPK). The tropica plant nutrition+ contains these macro nutrients and the micro nutrients that are in you already existing liquid fert.
If you dont want to dose the liquid carbon or inject CO2 then take away one of the light tubes to decrease light intenisty and thus decrease the demand for Carbon.
