Tali-something-ia Fish

Can anyone help name the fish I just saw in the lfs.

Its name beging with 'tal' and ends in 'ia'. It's about 1.5 cm long and has black and white vertcal stripes. Quite a tall fish for its length but slim.

I'd love some to complement the zebra danios I've got but without about them knowing I'm not going to risk it.

I was in a hurry to get home and couldn't stop to ask!!

Do you mean Tilapia? I'm not sure if I remember correcly or not, but I think they grow HUGE.

That was my first thought too. I've never seen Tilapia sold for pets before though -- just at the grocery store for food!!

I googled Tilapia and got Tilapia Buttikoferi. They are black and white vertcally striped fish, but MUCH bigger than I want.

They are also described as:

"Beautiful and very Aggressive Cichlid"

"Tries to bite you through the tank."
"Will attack if you put your hand in the water."
"Quite a match for Red Devils. May actually KILL Red Devils."

So I don't think my danios would stand a chance!!

Just goes to show - you can't buy a fish by just looking at its size in the shop!

To be fair though I didn't ask.
