haha i know this is silly but ever since i saw Finding Nemo I am always afraid that taking pictures of my fish will hurt them. Do they really go blind and get all disoriented like they do in the movie?

Well, I don't think it hurts them in any way. I've taken loads of pics, and my fish never seem even slightly disoriented. But I'm not so sure, since we really can't ask a fish ;)

Off topic: Finding Nemo was a cool movie :D

My fish are always shy after I take pictures with the flash, but because they all look better without the flash I've stopped using it.

I don't imagine it hurts them any more than it hurts you to get your picture taken, though nocturnal fish might not appreciate the flash as much :p
My oscar seems to like getting his photo taken... he's fascinated with the camera!

sure hope not. Way back when, I had a crayfish half that size that was given to me and it probably ate 100 dollars worth of fish in about a week.
Originally it was in my community tank, but several torn fins later I moved the 35 gallon up from the basement and set her up on her own.

Gave her 3 goldfish today as friends, I named them "Beef, Chicken, and Pork"

no flash will damage their eyes as much as it your. What the flash does it is burns out the light receptors in your eyes (kinda like a bright light over load) that's why it bothers people who have been a dark room to move into a fully lit room. If anything they will get burn spots on their eyes for a few mins at the most.
