taking cuttigns

bascially i got a new plant the other day and it has grown dramitcally already i want to take i few cuttigns from it and spread them round th tak to fill up the empty space.

so bascailly how do i do it and get them in a condition to plant

Depends on the type of plant. I posted the procedure for stem plants earlier today in this thread. This works for the vast majority of commonly available stem plants.

If it is a rosette plant, I would advise against trying to split it. It is possible, but you need to know what you are doing, and even then, a bit of luck. Most plants of this type have easier propogation methods.

Large rhizomed plants can be cut. Make sure you have several, say at least 4 leaves, on each part. Again, there are usually better ways then cutting.

As I said, a lot depends on what you are talking about.
