Taking Care Of Live Plants...

Depends on what kinda set up you want really. Do you have good light levels?? What kinda substrate yer got etc. There are loads of pinned treads on here telling you what you need to know. Or you could do what I do, all my plants are growing on bog wood, none of my plants in the 55 gal tank are actually planted in the substate. I can then move them about any time I like. I will try n get a piccie for you to see.Mine are all good plants for low light levels

There are a number of ways to create a set-up in which plants will thrive and each of these ways cross over into each other.

A very low maintainance tank ('low tech') could have a soil substrate, no CO2, low/medium light levels and water changes as little as once every 6 months. Fertilization will come from uneaten food and fish waste. Plant growth will be slow and there will be certain plants that this setup could not support.

Most the tanks that users on this board have are 'High Tech' with pressurised CO2, a substrate especially for supporting aquatic plants, a daily fertiliser routine, powerful lighting units and big water changes every week. Once set up correctly you could grow any aquatic plant you want.

Its not as black and white as that though. There is a huge grey area of set ups that use various levels of techniques and are neither 'hi tech' or 'low tech'.

That probably cleared nothing up for you at all, but its the best I can do. :)
