I just made a 9 inch by 9 inch moss wall how long does it take to start filling in? I was thinking of doing one for my whole 50 gallon, but if it takes forever to grow I don't know if I want to bother. Any pictures of your moss walls???

I love Moss Walls and Just diy'd the siest way possible.

I use Filter Floss Pads.
Cut them to the size you need for the back of the tank.
attach the java/taiwan moss to it. I just left it on top and waited a few days for it to attach. attach to the tank using clothes pegs, bulldog clips, massive plastic paper clips from the 99pshop, just plain plastic coated garden wire bent to hold it in place.
The Filter Floss creates the best rooting platform and willalways keep it moist.
Plus the Filter Floss acts as extra filtration and my shrimp love hanging onto it,
I use these in my fighter breeding tanks and the females love it as there hiding spot.

I also use this idea for attaching to slate and when i made the waterfall for the crabs.

i'll get some pix uplater.

The amount of light reaching the moss wall will determine how fast it grows.

I had a MH 70W on my 30 Gallon and it filled in, in about 1 month

Im growing taiwan moss, a little slower then the flame moss but nice and dense, tends to go out rather then up.

Im growing a Xmass moss wall, getting my MH lighting and CO2 set up so I'll post some pics once I'm a few weeks in. 240l tank

Thansk for the replies, here is what mine looks like now front and back views. Never thought about the filter floss Idea! Seems look a good idea though.

Looks like mine but you've got a lot more moss to start with. I would tie the plastic canvas together in the middle others wise the moss will grow between the sheets rather than out of it

I tied the very middle closed, do you mean I should tie other areas as well? I tied it closed with fishing line. I also have a soda can size clump of moss left! Would that be enought to start a moss wall of 36" x 10"

I have tied mine around the edges and down the middle a bit to secure it . You can use any amount of moss to start a wall but the more you have the quicker it will fill out. I have used about three fist falls to cover 28"x20". Its going to be a long wait for it to cover it all.

So I should be able to do the moss wall YEAAH!! It wont be the whole back because I don't need it to go all the way down because the plants cover most of the bottom half and I just want to cover the crappy blue background
