Hi All
Fabian has developed a terrible habit over the past five days!
To start, he had lost a scale before new years and I was concerned that it was related to the fake plant he has had in his bowl for a long time. I decided to take the plant out until I was sure the scale wound would not become an issue.
It didnt, but last Friday I re-introduced the plant. Although he has had the same plant in the same spot for several months with no trouble, infact enjoying resting on the silk leaves and such, he now took to curling his body quite tightly due to the plant taking up a bit of space in the middle of his bowl, and could see his own tail and was biting it a bit.
Over the weekend it continued, and I repositioned the plant differently off against the side so it would not take up his swimming area. I thought he was still doing it today, and indeed I just noticed a large new chunk has been removed. Yesterday I even caught him with fin sticking out of his mouth. I've removed the plant permanently now.
What can I do to stop this? So far no infection, he's almost oblivious but now close to 1/2 the tail is eaten. He's eaten himself out of ever seeing that plant again, but surely Im not the first to see a behaviour like this? What can I expect? He's in salted and bettafixed (melafix) water.
Any tips on correcting his behaviour problem would be appreciated, and I'll update after I've observed him for a while now that the plant is removed.
thanks!
