The T6 do seem a good option. I've not seen them in action so can't comment on their "40% more light" claim, although it does sound ambitious, especially compared with modern full-spectrum T8s like the Interpet Daylight Plus.Yeah, i'm very interested in this too, i was thinking about replacing my really old original freshwater acadia 20watt t8
tube with this Spectrum Grow 24" t6 tube.
Or does anyone think that a hagen floragro or an ADA NA 20w lamp would be better.
K is colour temp. It is not related to intensity. The Realux T6 tubes offer 11,000K as opposed to the usual 6-7000K-ish of T8s. I am guessing this is where the 40% extra output claim comes from.
All I know is that they certainly brightened up my Juwel tank over a T8, though not by a huge amount in comparison with a decent T8 tube (e.g. Interpet Daylight Plus).
I did get a noticeable algae increase with the Realux tube though, so I ended up cutting my lighting period down to cope with it. Could be to do with the K difference, not entirely sure!
Thanks George, I'll probably go with the ADA one when i get the money(i just got a job at the lfs though so i have more to spend on my future planted tank and my current!).The ADA NA T8 I expect to be very nice and worth a try if they fit your light unit, they are about 20mm shorter than regular 18/20w T8s.
Depends on your light unit. Is it a fixed length or do you have end caps on cables? If fixed i.e. Juwel light bar, then they won't fit.But when you say its 20mm shorter, do you think if i were to buy the 24" one it would fit in the place where my current 24" tube is? I guess I'll just have to try it to find out though.
