T5 Lighting

To use T5 lighting do you need a specific hood or luminaire, or is it just the light tube itself?

Its a complete new setup as the tubes are smaller than T8 and use a different type of balast

on the plus side there more economic to run and a lot brighter

i have a juwel T5 I bar (high lite) on order now. Arcadia are going over to T5's now aswell

You need a new ballast.

T8 - 1"
T5 - 5/8th inch

e-mail them and ask if they fit on a 3ft tank

would cost £45 per tube and last 2 years+

100cm I-bar (high lite), 2 tubes and 2 reflectors from my Lfs for £114 rrp is aroud £160 iirc

Have a look at http/www.charterhouse-aquatics.co.uk/ thay carry a lot of lighting and should give you some idea to what you want

I bars come up on ebay quite a bit. I sold mine for about £35 it was this one
