Hi Guys

Im pretty noob at plants in general I upgraded my lights to 2 T5 High Output 24W tubes, it gives me like 1.29 WPG as I have 37 Gallons. I was wondering if HO has any effect on WPG. My plants don't seem to be looking too healthy after 3 days :(

I presumed that Excel, Seachem Flourite and this new lighting would be enough to show growth but the plants look pretty droopy

Any advice would be appreciated

Adam

With T5HO you can still use wpg. Technically you have the same wpg as a T5 however the T5HO has a higher PAR rating. PAR determines how much light can penetrate the water. The higher the PAR, the brighter the lights are and the more light the plants will recieve since the light is penetrating deeper. Sounds confusing I know but i don't know of a better way to describe it.

Let's just say you still have 1.29wpg but your plants are feeling and recieving more than they would with a T5. More light = more macro and trace nutrients as well as more co2.

What is the flow like and how long do you have the lights on for? Do you inject Co2?

when using HO tubes you cannot work with the WPG ruling, no one has ever tested (to my knowlege) and worked out a WPG for a high output tube. Supercoley and myself were having a discussion about this a few weeks back. Grayscale is right to a point, but we wouldn't tend to use the ruling with HO. If i was running my current tank with the normal T5's i would be running 1.3wpg, i did upgraded to T5HO and had to bump up my C02 due to lacking plants. IME, bulbs shouldn't be ugraded without the thought of needing some C02 to regulate the needs of the plants as you can end up in algae hell.

I dose liquid CO2 (Excel) every day. The lights are on for about 10 hours. The pump turns over 1200 L/ph There is alot of surface agitation. I upgraded my lighting fixture because i quite literally had .59 WPG and nothing would grow. Im thinking that I should also dose a fertilizer. I cannot get TPN in Australia which seems to be the most popular on this forum. What are the API / Sechem alternates?

Thanks

Seachem has flourish and many other specific liquid nutrients. Drop the hours down to 8 it would help I think.
