Hey i have a arcadia 4x54watt luminaire with 2 white and 2 actinic now if i was to change one white to blue so i had more of a blue affect and made the corals more greener woud it affect the growth or survival of any corals im keeping softies and LPS.

Cheers

if you want to get more colour your better off getting an extra antic tube and starter rather than switching one, decreasing one of the white tubes will decrease growth and may actually make some corals seem less colourful they need specific frequencys of light in different amounts so overdosing on a specific colour band and reducing another may help some but hinder others IMHO your better keeping the balance equal but increasing the number ;)

Yeah but he's really only lowering his actual light output by maybe 5-10% if he switches to a 3x1 actinic x white setup.

Lighting is really a preference and its tough to tell you how your corals will react to the change as each system is different. Witching to more actinics will possibly slow your growth rate, but IMO it won't be that much for your typical softies and easy LPS that I know you have in your tank. If you were trying to grow somethin like micromussa or echinopora or other light-loving LPS then I'd say its probably not a wise switch but for your generic brains, open brains, euphylla, etc you should do fine :)
