Ok i started a thread about them not eating and they ave gotten worse....the male still trys it on with the female but is now biting at her, they are both just resting when not each other (sitting on the bottom of the tank and constant hiding) nither of them eating and dont even come up for food anymore! im unable to catch the female to remove her from the tank....

the males eye on one side looks like its starting to boldge at the bottom aswell! ive had these guys for a long time and dont want to loose them! any help? advice?

ive also started a interpet internal parasite treatment on the 4th (its a 7 day treatment) but they just seem to be getting worse and worse! please help!

p.s the tank states are all perfect and the tank is setup right for these guys (lots of hiding places and such)

Hi!

The bulging eye could be the start of popeye, which is a bacterial disease so you should begin treatment with meds for that (but not at the same time as other meds). Popeye usually results as a secondary infection to other underlying bacterial problem, so it won't hurt to dose the tank as it sounds like your fish have been very stressed with all the aggressive behaviour (of mating) and, as you probably know, stress = low immune system = disease.

The symptoms you describe could also be the start of dropsy, so watch for the first sign of any bloating! Catch it quick because once they bloat there's little chance of saving them. The bloating is caused by excess fluid build-up due to the break down of their internal organs.

Octozin is a good dropsy med if it turns out to be that.

Regards, Athena

I've expereinced dropsy before in my betta....i'm 100% certain there is no point trying to save them as it will only take them sooner or later, i dont want to put anouther fish through that!

the males eye seems to have sucken back in...im starting to wonder if it was a battle wound (a slight one at that)

do you think its a good idea to pull the tank down so i can separate them? i have a spare 130litre tank i can place the male or female into, wheres wilder when you need her...:(
