They mix well and i use them all the time but 40 (edit to say Imperial )gallons dont leave much space

That's about a 45 gallon tank so..... I would say yes also is it 4 ft long??

I would say it DOESN'T work!! You're talking a 9" fish when full grown and if you're going to have synos and want to see them it's best to get at least 3. I wouldn't put 3 9" fish in that small of tank w/a bunch of cichlids also.

I am mystified about what your opinion is. As I understand you it is a 9inch cat that is too big for the tank but then you go on to say 3 of them?
Could you please clarify?
What would your recommendation be? It’s great to have people’s views, thanks for that but I know it’s not done intentionally but if you disagree ,then one of your suggestions would be helpful and valuable. :good:
Thanks for all your suggestions so far

I have just one, and he's out all the time, although considering the rockwork, there are lots of places to hide.

S.Eupterus are actually fine kept singularly and differ to most Syno species in this respect - they can even become aggressive towards each other when kept in small groups. They do however get very large, 9" is about right in terms of length but Eupterus tend to get rather fat too and turn into hefty fish when adults.

A single Eupterus should be just about OK in your tank though. :good:

Just that they get big and for most it's best to have a least 3 if you want to see them(or they can hide) so it's best to get 3 and I wouldn't put 3 in your tank. :)

Although Ferris just stated for us that this species is an exception to the grouping rule :good:

OK..Thanks for that.
What Cat could you reccommend with this set up. It would be nice to see them or it in daylight or or subdued lighting

Thanks :good:

Just to add my experiences, my Syno. eupterus used to fight so fiercely they had ripped fins, torn lips and some neverfading scars on their faces. Scary

Mind you, my tank was 4 foot 73 gallon....They just liked the same place, and don't share!
