I have a Synodontis eupterus with a swollen belly, it's been like it for a while, i've tried some meds when it forst appeared, also not feeding it for a bit. I have no idea what it is. It shows no discomfort and swims about freely. I've enclosed a picture below. The white marks are from where it gets chased by the other one, this is also a concern as they seem to be getting more aggressive, boisterous lately.

thanks

Water stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
He is swollen.
Do you feed bloodworms.
Do you feed the plec any veg.
Cook some peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
What med did you use?

All my stats are fine, i do feed bloodworm but only once or twice a week, it goes mad for it when i do. I used an anti-internal bacteria med, but no success. I don't feed any veg but feed a variety of foods. Flake, algae pellets, bloodworn, shrimp and daphnia and when i can get it live foods.

I'll try the pea. What would be the best way feeding it so as the syno in question gets it.

thanks.

Don't feed any bloodworms for a least a week.
Plecs need veg.
I would feed him some peas at least twice a week.

It's hard to say if he will make it as once plecs bloat up they can go down hill fast.
There tails can bend when bloated your looks fine.
Also they can lay on there backs then when there not much hope.

Epson salt baths help draw the fluids out.

Hope the peas do the job.
Good luck.

Hang on, wasn't the problem with the Synodontis? In fact, I can't see the OP mention plec once, why did you bring that up Wilder?

That picture looks exactly like mine does after it eats too much. Almost all larger catfish will eat until their belly is distended like that. Nothing to worry about. If you want to prevent it being like that so often, cut the feeding down to every second, third or even fourth day.

Sorry cat fish not plec.
