For about two weeks now my sisters Synodontis Decorus has just been sitting nose to the surface tail to the bottom and has been a distinctly dark colour. Anyone have any ideas. Has been treated for internal bacteria.

Also posted in catfish section.

How large is the tank?
What tankmates are in the tank?
What are the water parameters?
What is the temperature of the tank?
Any new items added to the tank recently?

We need a little more information to help you out.

Tank is 48*18*15in, water parameters are fine, temp i think is 76degs, nothing new since setup and tankmates are a few cichlids.

usually when i find my fish breathing at the surface like that, they dont last long

How often do you perform water changes?
When was the last water change?

Try doing a water change and adding some aeration to the tank. :good:

Are you sure you filter is working effciently?

Apologies in a rush so i'll list the common possibilities;

Swim bladder, bacterial infection, how long have the treated with the med? Maybe run a second course.

Hypoxia (oxygen lack), is the water well oxygenated/disturbed at the surface?
(no idea about sydontis but if it is the largest fish in the tank then the likelihood of it being this IMO increases)

A response to aggression.

Theres a fair few more but these are the common causes, i'm sure you can sort through them, take extra care with treating with the anti-bac if hypoxia is still considered a risk.....
:dunno:
