Calgary Alberta,
One of my synodontis petricola's is breathing really hard and frantically gasping for breath at the top.
I just noticed it while I was finishing off my water change-so I hope it's just being a little sensitive, but it had been hanging around the top for a while I didn't look to see if it was breathing air before. I added an air stone and there it looks fine nothing on him. I did have a cichlid die in the tank this morning.
Any suggestions apreciated thank you

Need to look at your stats first in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
If a fish has died something going on.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills on the fish to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

I think the water change should have taken care of any water quaility problems and it looks fine except for it's breathing. It's calmed down now but I'm still worried

Without stats it hard to say, if you do have water problems the water change will help, but still need to know the readings.
