Swordtails

Hi right in my tank i have swordtails and platties (also plenty of other fish but they are not relevent)
I bought 1 couple of male and female swordtails but unfortunatly the female died whilst giving birth
But anyway, the male swordtail always tries and mates with the female platties so i bought him another female swordtail but he doesnt bother with her at all and carries on with the platties , can anyone suggest anything? can swordtails and platties mate and have fry?

I think they can, not that you'd want to though.

Livebearers should really be kept 1f-2m, you got more chance too

Yes they can mate together and have fry. In fact, I was told that platys fems prefer a male with a sword

Normally i would keep 1:2 ratio of males and females but my tank is full and i don't want to push it with the nitrate levels, i have sadly learnt my lesson from that

Pun intented, but there actually was a study that showed in an environment where platys and swordtails coexists, the platy females are more likely to mate with the swordtail male.

haha, i think the female swordtail is enjoying a bit of piece and quiet to be honest because she was the only female in a tank of 6 males in the shop bless her
