hi i have a 29 gallon aquarium with 3 neon tetras one chinese alge eater 3 cherry barbs and one male swordtail and one female. i have had them for about 4 months and still no sign of pregnancy. the tempature is 78 degrees ferinhite. the water is fine and clean. why arent they breeding? and what can i do to encourage them too?

thanks!

also: there are lots of hiding spots for the fry; plants caves rocks. the female has been chasing the male is this a god sign?

I had the exact same issue.

I inherited a second female sword tail. To being with I had one female and one male so this brought me up to two females and one male. This second lady practically woke him up now 8 months on I have a baby tank full of fry from both females.

So maybe a little bit more company to get him in the mood.

My swordtail was defiantly a man that wanted a couple of ladies ha!

Male swordtails will start to breed when they are at least 1 year old. Rather slow of the swords but not male guppies when they can get pretty busy with the females say around 2 months old.
