i am new to breeding swordtails. i brought a pregnant swordtail today i can see loads of fry eyes in her gravid spot but she isnt as fat as i expected with all those fry in her. how big do swordtails get befor they give birth. if anyone has a picture of one thats due any day i will appreciate it thanx

My female swordtail always delivers her fry so suddening that whenever I plan to move her to the breeding net or another small delivering tank, I find out that she isn't pregnant anymore! I only find one of he fry in each batch because of her unexpected delivery.

Hi guppy girl,

I asked the same advice about 2 weeks ago. The best answer I got was from heathersweetness. She said pay close attention to the anal gland. Right before dropping it will protrude a little bit, its very noticeable. She was right.

thanx for the information. i have a couple of guppies where there anus is protuding but nothing is coming out and they are following each other. they are not as big as the one in ur pic snowyangel. my dark one is squared off and her gravid spot is pitch black but has been for weeks. are they just constipated or will they give birth very soon? my yellow finned female is due in a couple of days and i dont know when my dark female is due as i didnt catch her last batch. also i mentioned in another thread that i have a female that was due last wednesday. her 28 days will be up in 2 days. she is thin but she is pregnant i can see a frys eye in her but y isnt she getting fat. very worried.

like i said i brought a pregnant swordtail yestarday. well today i noticed she has white stuff coming out of her right gill. the rest of my fish are ok and she is acting normal. her fins by her anul fin are tucked up but the rest are fine. shes eating well and doing what all the other fishies are doing. the temp on my tank is 79. i dont know what the levels are as i meant to get a tester kit yestarday but forgot. whats wrong with her? i'm putting meds in the tank that kills fungus, tetra desease and other stuff.

my swordtail had her babies today. she had 41 of them and as far as i know she didnt eat any. wooooooohooooo. they r all healthy yeyyyyyy. my female doesnt look to good though. i hope she is going to be ok
