So recently i discovered my swordtail lying on the gravel in an awkward position so i though she was dead. then he i tried to remove her, she started to dash around in wild jerking motions and then she'll stop moving completely. then it starts all over again! Whats wrong? i recently got her 3 days ago

do you have your water stats - ammonia, nitrite and nitrates? do you have any other fish? is the tank cycled?

this tank was up and running for well over a year now so yes i think its cycled and it is a 10 gallon with:
3 swordtails
5 guppies
2 cory catfish
2 apple snails
There are plenty of hiding places to hide in

Is that uk or us gallons? well, regardless, that is majorly overstocked!! what filtration do you have? we really needs some water stats. if you dont have tests then you need a test kit asap. I would higly recommend doing a large water change immediately.

ETA your new fish is probably in shock from lack of oxygen too

Are all the other fish ok? Did the swordtail start doing this on the day after you put it in the tank?

i have a whisper in-tank filter 10i as well as a sponge filter with a 20 gallon pump. Did i mention its planted? And you should have seen my stock before my last one if you think this one is overstocked. the one before my last one, i had ummmmm...........
3 swords
4 cory catfish
a snail
2 platies
and they lived for 2 years until my dad decided to use freezing tap water to do a 80% water change

happened just today about an hour ago.
it was fine this afternoon when i was feeding them and it was eating.
all the other fish are just fine

Well it doesnt sound well, and you know that. Do you have a quarantine tank you can put it in?
Im not being funny but i dont think you're taking the overstocking issue seriously. Others will come along and say the same thing. Just trying to help.

It looks slightly over stocked the tank.

Need to look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Is the fish also flicking and rubbing.
Any red sores of red pink prick marks on the fish.
Does the body look pale, or greyish white with excess slime.
Are the gills red and inflamed, or swollen, pale with excess slime, look like there bleeding.
Does the fish look bloated or skinny.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
Is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
is the spine bending.
Is the belly sunken in.

The symtoms point towards bad water quality, external parasites, internal parasites.

did u say female? one of my female guppys used to do the same thing when she was about to give birth. she would sit on the bottom and then dart around a bit crazyly, the next morning i would look in the tank and there was fry.
does she look fat and does she have a black grivid patch at the back of her body.
i think i may be a little over stocked as well
hope this helps
