my male swordtail (who has always been peaceful in the past) has gotten aggressive recently. he keeps showing off to my female black sword but chases everyone else around. especially my marigold molly (and they used to be inseperable). is this just mating behavior and will he calm down soon?

It's mating agression.

He'll do that for awhile and then he'll be back to normal. Mine do this about 2-3 times a month. They will chase the female like mad nipping at everyone and a day or three later everything is peaceful again.

Yeh, swordtails do that like mine but it will calm down soon. Sometimes if you have like 2 females and one male the agression is a bit less because it's divided with the two females.
