How long are they pregnant for. How will you know when it's about to give birth?

The time from conception to birth is a month, but it might only be three weeks once you can work out that she is pregnant. If she's pregnant now, she will have loads more fry whether you have a male or not. Livebearers can store sperm for up to seven pregnancies on one mating.
The dark gravid spot on her flank will get blacker and blacker the closer she is to giving birth, and she will also start to hide in the plants and may be aggressive to other fish.

Sometimes they can be pregnant for longer than a month, and sometimes they have the babies at different times, for example recently my female swordtail was pregnant and she released 3-4 babies last week although she is still having more!
