Swordtail Pregnancy Question!

Hi guys, i bought a breeding pair of swordtails from my LFS... the female was already pregnant quite heavily so i've placed her into my breeder tank.

She's all well and good, but i was just wandering... The guy in the LFS told me it has around a week maximum to go due to it's size. (a guess)

My question is, the black gravid patch usually appears but on mine this is more of a yellowy/orange patch? But her stomach is absolutely HUGE, so does this patch need to be present or is it sometimes not?

From breeding guppies i know it always has been in my experience.

I don't know...I think she is well fed. I have a platy that also may be prego too and need help.

Usually when the femal is ready to drop, she will hang around the heater or near some plants or dwell on the bottom, usually putting them in a breeding trap early can stress them a bit causing them to drop early..

I usually only leave them in a maximum of 2 days in the trap, if she still aint dropped them release her again and just keep a eye on her doing any of the above.

Here a quick example of a fish ready to drop.... bear in mind these are balloon mollies but u can still see my example.
