Swordtail Preggers (with pics)

Here are pics of my female swordtail...when do you think she's gonna have the babies? I'm going to switch her to her own 10 gallon later today.

She's a beauty. I'm not that experienced with swords (yet) .Howcome I dont see a gravid spot and she's so big?

My platy was that big for about 5 days. She finally had babies yesterday. Your best bet to knowing when she'll have them is when she starts to look square.

If I had to guess I'd say she's going to have babies very very soon!

On some livebearers you don't see a dark gravid spot

She looks like she's gonna pop those fry out any day now
I had a female swordtail that looked exactly like her, she was just as big as yours before she had her babies.

thank you so much! After I put her in the 10 gallon and she has her babies, how soon should i take her out and put her back with the male?

Do you have a divider for your 10 gal?

If so, this is what I did when my fish had fry....

I put the divider in, then put the pregnant female on one side. I waited till she had her babies and I moved the female to the other side of the divider for a few days before I put her back in with the males. After the few days were up, I moved her back and took the divider out pretty simple

If you don't have a divider...You could leave her in the 10 gal with the babies but some fry might become a snack for the mom. Or if you have a spare 5 gallon or even a spare 2.5 gallon, you could put her in there for a couple days

How much fry is she going to have? I believe i still have a 10 gallon divider, besides i have a couple community tanks i could put her in

Ok, well you could use the divider or put her in one of your other community tanks which ever you prefer.

Sometimes they can have a lot of fry, my swordtail had around 20-25 fry, but yours could have more or less

It depends how old your fish is. I think it is the more times they have babies, the more fry that come out in every batch.
