Came home from work to see about 5 to 8 (can't count them really) babies so far. She is still in labor but so far no More. She definitely has more inside. But when is it time to pull her? I want to save as many fry as possible this time. Since my last batch all got eaten.
Her gravid spot is just red no black ... is this because she isn't going to have the rest yet? I tried to feed her and she wasn't interested in her favorite food. Although she is kind of trying to get the fry. She gives up almost instantly though.

If you have the breeder box try to get the fry in that then let the mother stay in the tank so she can have more babies if she needs to.

unfortunately I bought a breeder box online and it literally came today but was too big to fit in my mailbox. So I couldn't pick it up today. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed. Give her a few more hours then put her in the main tank Before I go to bed.

If you have a net which I'm assuming you do you can set it long ways on the tank letting the net part sit down in the water and that creates a short term place to keep the fry safe from the mom.

Well I took s look at her and her gravid spot is almost gone. And she's back to her normal self, nipping at stuff, and so I just moved her to the main tank. There's maybe 10 fry at the most. But she's super young so I didn't expect much.
Question ... while she was in labor she had a lot of really black poo, I'd that because she ate some babies?

Another question: should I put my filter on low instead of high?

Is it a HOB filter? Low would be best for the babies.

It's just a normal filter. Top fin Is the brand. The holes on the intake tube aren't big enough for the fry to get ducked through. I'll go ahead and put it on low.

What size is the grow-out tank with the fry? Just curious.

It's a 20 gallon. So I think they'll have lots of space to grow.
