I was looking around my tank today and noticed a small baby swimming around. At first i had to do a double take and then saw another and then another. I only found 3 total that i was aboe to save. I have them in a breeder net in the tank.

This is the first time i have ever had a fish have fry in a tank. Suprising thing is i dont even know how, as the male sword died 4 months ago and i didnt think my female could get pregnant? Unless someone another fish crossbred with it?

Anyways... Is it possible that the fish is not done having babies? I only found 3 and that doesnt aeem like many. I know the other could have gotten eaten but these seem kind of big to be freshly had. They also look nothing like anything else. Half body is black other half is orangish.

Isnthere anything special to feed them? I was taking flake food and grinding it up into a fine powder.

Any other ways to keep them? Tank temps. Etc...

Pic i could get:

Cute baby! Not sure with swords but with guppies they can be pregnant for 6 months (6 times) after their last contact with a male...

Grinding the food up is just fine!

Can you post a pic of the mom?

Thanks! I've been grinding up the food but they seem to be slow with learning what food is and eating.  I'm thinking maybe i need to find something more appetizing for them other then flake food and freeze dried brine shrimp.

i'll see if I can get a pic of the mom,  she looks NOTHING like the babies though... She has no defining black on like the babys I have.  The father (who died 4 months ago) was red and black.

Update on them:
So far they are still alive.  Its been 5 days since I got them into a breeding net that is in the main tank..  I'm thinking if they survive for another week and show growth I will buy a small 5 gallon tank to cycle for them to transfer into and grow a bit.
