Hey all!

Just a curious question, as I'm still puzzled over this,.. About a year ago, I bought a female pineapple sword, She had babies and everything (quite a few times actually,) but one day she turned into a male, I guess you could say, it was the only swordtail in my tank, (as the other female & male died) but it had a gonopodium and the "sword tail", this happened all within a week, but she had babies months before, so what could have happend? I'm sorry I don't have pics of it, but as I said, it was at least a year ago, I was just thinking about it again and see what people think,.. And please don't call me a liar,
I'm honestly telling the truth.... :good:

Their are a few types of sex changing swords.
  • Late developers = Immature males that take up to and even over a year to mature. There will never produce fry.
  • Hormone imbalanced = Females which have an overload of male hormones and develop a gonopodium and sword. These are infertile and will never produce fry if placed with virgin females.
Guessing you have the latter here.

Dont worry about people who accuse of being a liar here, some people are just rude. Some people are just being blunt
I'll always be blunt if feel it's needed.

are you sure the swordtail you have now had the babies and not the female that died?

I'm sure it was the same female, both male & female died a few months before (they were different ones) the pineapple sword was the one that had the babies, then changed sex :S
