Hi.
The first time I came accross this site was back in July when my sword tail got stressed in a plastic breeder and aborted her fry. She soon started to show signs of carrying again - then I went away last weekend but when I returned, her belly just looked a bit red, with no sign of any 'black bits'. Has she aborted again? She wasnt in a breeder this time and there was no sign of any hiding fry. I have since bought a large net breeder (Not the cruel plastic ones that stress fish out) and I was planning on putting her in that when she 'dropped'.
Can anyone help me with the following:
How long are Sword Tails pregnant for?
After 'aborting' once, does it usually mean it will hapopen again?
Do Sword tails tend to get cuaght regularly?
If i put her in the net breeder, and she gives birth without me seeing, she will just eat them in there wont she - so whats the point with a net breeder?

Ta! (p.s. one last Q... I am looking to get another tank but just with 2 fish in, I would like a larger kind, and I would like them to be Livebearers... and suggestions?
:dunno:

I have had no luck on breeding swords...I think there a very scared fish, and the least bit of interuption will cause them to abort..I am thankful I can even keep mine alive, but I have never had sword fry. Good luck on urs.

when i bred my swordtails i just let her give her drop in the tank because i didnt have anything in there but 1 male and 4 females and 2 corys. So then after she dropped i simply rescued all the fry with a net and i caught 99% of them. Only 1 casaulty.

Oh and your new tank your getting i would maybe sugest just having that tank for your swordtail fry to raise in if your doing some serious breeding.

Cheers guys - I think I will just leave them to it and not worry too much, I have just been looking through other peoples posts and I didnt even know that you should turn off the light when fish are ready to 'Drop'.
A few months ago, I was doing a water change and I moved a leaf and one little fry swam away - dont know who it was from, but it was soon gulped up!!!!!

By the way, before I log off, can anyone tell me how you sex angels???!?!?!???!
