So I have a white skirt tetra that looks really fat. It isn't super old, at least I don't think so, I got it about a year ago and has survived a lot.  One of my young female guppies looks smaller than usual.  I am kind of thinking that she had a few fry, but she is still way tiny for a sexually mature guppy.  My tetra always snacks on the fry though, I haven't seen any fry though.  I would expect a very small batch if the guppy did have babies.

So do you guys think it was just eating fry or do you think anything else is wrong?

Size of tank in gallons please?
How many fish and which type?
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph?
What do you feed your fish?

Are the scales sticking out?
Check the fish anus to see if it looks enlarged or red and inflamed.
Also check the fish eyes to make sure there not popping out.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet?.
Can she maintain balance in the water?
Do any of your fish look very thin, or have sunken in bellies?

It is a 38 US gallon tank. I have one white skirt, three neons, and about 20 young guppies.  I don't the the water stats, I don't have a job so I don't have money.  But that, live plants, and light bulbs are on my list.  I also know that the tetras need schools, but my fish don't act stressed at all, I have done fish for a long time, probably 4 or 5 years, but I don't have a quarantine tank for new fish.   I feed my fish flakes with frog pellets on the side.  They get frog pellets about once a week and their food isn't the cheap goldfish stuff.
The tetras stomach has gone down so it may have just snacked on something, no scales were sticking out, no white spots the eyes were clear.  The fish was fine except for the fact that it was fat.  It was also chilling like it normally does in his little area just before bed time. He really doesn't seem very lonely, he love to be with the other guppies and often times he will even school with the neons.

So now I have another question.... How big does a female guppy have to be to have babies? I have had guppies for a long time, but they were mostly large females so I wouldn't really know if the young guppies had babies.

Introduce some frozen foods into there diet like brine shrimp, blood worms daphnia.
Green veg like cabbage, lettuce, sprouts,, broc, spinach, peas.

I don't think females guppies have to be that old to have babies. Thinks it's about 7 weeks. But I would check in the livebearers
section of the forum.

Glad to hear the fish is alot better.

Yeah, same thing happened again.  My other oldest female dramatically lost weight (definitely gave birth)  and she got fat. I can't do frozen foods, no money and mom says no to bugs in her freezer.  I do feed egg yolk and cooked peas every once in a while

Egg yolk? fish omlete :D sorry for the wee joke there,so what does the yolk do to them.

Ive had loads of fish die on me over about 3-5 weeks and if i thought yolk would be good for them i would try and give them some now and again, very interesting reading all this what people give there fish etc and what can all be good & bad for them

The yolk is often used to feed fry. The eggs are boiled before, so he egg yolk is somewhat solid, I don't think you can feed them raw yolk.  But I just feed it to my fish as a snack.

interesting neer ever heard of anyone else doing that,i might give it a try and see how it goes is it only a small amount you would put in?

Take a sample of your tank water to the LFS to be tested and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Also keep an eye on your fish for when they go to the toilet.

Yeah I never drop the whole thing in, maybe 1/5 ( i have a 40 gallon with about 25 small fish) and I break it apart from there.  The tetra seems fine, its poo was a good color. I have never had that fish get sick or injured so I was really scared.  But it seems fine now.

Feed some shelled peas. There very good for flushing fish throw. Also dapnia good for the same thing.
