Hi, This morning I fed my female betta fish, and she looked perfectly fine, and she ate. This afternoon I looked at her, and she is very bloated, her tummy looks so big so much that she looks like a blowfish now.

I went to the petstore, and they told me it could be fish bloat? They gave me some brine shrimp and told me that if it doesn't go down in a couple days to give that to her.

I am wondering if this is what is wrong with her, or if there are other possibilities.

Any help would be appreciated so much, and I will see about getting a photo of her if someone would like it.

Thank you in advance.

Its very possible she is constipated. Usually, you want to feed bettas no more than 3 pellets at once, as their stomaches are very small, about the size of their eye. Don't feed her the brine shrimp, the last thing she needs is a meal heavy in protine. Tomorrow, try feeding her either a pea (mine get no more than 1/2 a pea each, usually cut into quarters) or daphnia.

The other (common) thing it could be is dropsy, Are the scales sticking out like a pinecone?

no, her scales seem to look fine, i will try to get a photo of her, mind you it will be with my cell phone camera, so hopefully it turns out okay

I bet its just she at too much food. I've seen it happen wiht one of my bettas when I let one of my students feed them (and they over fed him). Give it a day, then try feeding peas. Think of this as the equivalent of you after thanksgiving dinner. :)

okay thank you so much. That makes me feel so much better. This would have been the second betta to nurse back to health.

So then tomorrow i won't feed her and keep a close watch.

Again, thank you so much for your time!!

My betta always looks really fat, as he steals the flakes from many of my platys and eats about 9 times more than he should be every day.

I hope thats all thats wrong, good luck to you and your fishy.
