Swollen Anus

one of my green tiger barbs has a swollen butt... its bumped out and a little red... i just added parasite medicine yesterday because they weren't eating so i thought they had a parasite.... what could this be? the medication was Jungle fish care Parasite Clear

A red inflamed anus can be internal parasites but also dropsy.

Depends on the internal parasite, what tyoe of intestional worms does the med treat.

it says gill mites, body flukes, anchor worm, ragged tailfin, fish lice and gill flukes

active ingredient is praziquantel, diflubenzuron, metronidazole and acriflavine

Thats an external parasite med you need an internal parasite med.

ah thats dissapointing now I have to drive all the way into town again. The bad thing this was the only parasite med that petco had.. guess I'll have to check the other pet stores

I just read the back of the box and it also says internal parasites but it doesnt say which ones.... maybe they are just saying that to make a sale

If they don't tell you what internal parasites the med treats no I wouldn't trust them either.

OK I got some more fish medicine. This stuff says it treats intestinal worms, nematodes, tape worms, and flagellates. it is call gel tex ultra cure px. I am a little skeptical because it only has 1 main ingredient different than the other stuff. However this stuff says you aren't supposed to feed for 24 hrs, and it's a food replacement. Are the fish supposed to eat the drops I put in the tank

That gel tex is meant to be good a member on here used it.
