Hi there,
I have a 20 gallon tank running right now with a filter that uses the "biobag" filters (the media is inclosed in a mesh type material). I want to purchase one of those cheap 5 gallon all in one kits, with the light, filter, etc. Would it somehow be possible to transfer some of that matured filter media into my new tank, or is it not worth it?

Also, an unrelated question: When starting a shrimp only tank, is it as necessary to cycle as it would be for a community fish tank?

What you could do if you have any spare room in your filter too is to find out what type of bio media is going to be in the 5 gallon, purchase a biobag or whatever it may be that would go in there, and place it in your current filter so that it is in contact with your current bacteria and gets flow from your tank. Should seed it pretty quickly. Not sure on the shrimp part.
