I’m planning on getting some clown loach and some corys so I want to add sand to my tank is 30 gal planted has 3 adult guppies about a dosen baby guppies, 12 dianos and 5 ghost shrimp have small rocks as substrate now do I need to remove the rocks to add the sand. Would love any feed back.

i'm new here, so feel free to omit my advice, there are other topics here about this subject too.

first, i'd take about half of the gravel out at a time, and keep it in a nylon or some other type of mesh-like material, inside the tank. that way, your cycle won't be disrupted too badly.

and second, make sure all your fish are sand-compatable. it sounds as if they all are, but i was looking into sand until i discovered that it irritated goldfish's gills. talk about raining on someone's parade lol.

good luck =]

Oh I want to do this too but am not sure how much work it will be. I have a few Cichlids who like sand. Does anyone know as well as how to change over how to clean (as in the equivalent to gravel vac)?

Thanks

p.s sorry to hijack

IMO use fine gravel not sand.
