Hi guys, I think my black moor may have swimbladder he has been floating at the top of the tank on his side and just floots around in the filter current. He is still moving a little. So I went to the pet shop and they gave me some swimbladder treatment No 13, got home and it said works best with salt, called the shop they said use the treament without the salt first to save some money - problem is its says on the side to remove the carbon from my filter for a week or so... is ths still needed as I am not using the salt. tested the water and all PH etc are normal. Help!!

Swimbladder problems is caused by the squat body (designer body shape) the swim bladder still need's to suport the fish, but it's also deformened, thus resualting in an unstable fish, somethins their fine, then others it to light and floats all the time and then to heavy and stuck on the bottom.

Treatments are not going to help rearly, and salt may reduce some stress on the fish, but it also makes then lighter in water so it will have more trouble floating around more.

Active carbon remove many toxins out of the water including any treatments, this is why you need to remove any carbon you may be using in a filter.

So can I save the fish or do you think its to late? P.s - he is not eating!

The fish will be fine, try the treatment that may help.

It will adjust the gasses it's self slowly, and correct it self but it may take several days and this fish will always be prone to this problem.

If he's not eating then it may be more than just the swimbladder. When a fish stop's eating it's not a good sign.

What tests have you done to your water and that was the results, Stating that every thing is normal is not enough. need ammonia, nitrite and nitrate's the most, pH is not a problem as ling at it's stable

well I'm sure it's just the swimbladder keep trying him with food, but remeber to remove any wast food as it will poluate the water.
