hi there, i know that this is a tropical fish forum but i also have cold water fish one with swim bladder and i was hoping that 1 of you could help me! i have a fancy goldfish that is finding it hard to swim around without floating to the top, ive had him for a couple of years he is kept in a mature tank with everything in order amonia nitrite etc..... ive tried the usuall interpet swimblader treatment, starving for 5 days feeding only brime shrimp or peas etc. he has been like this for approx 2 months i was wondewring if there was anything else that has the potential of curing him???? and if not will he live the way he is? he was my first fish so im a bit sentimental. ps when he was starved for 5 days he was swimming fine with no problems also his waste seems to be full of air and floats with noticeable bubbles vissible. thankyou to anyone who can help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, did he eat all the peas? they get rid of the air in their belly...also i was told not to starve them...so mayb put him into quarantine and feed him a pea at a time. make sure he eats it, but take the skin off the pea. this might help, hope he gets better :)

ok thanks for that i will try the peas again but without the skin as i left them on before he did eat them after a while though he did turn his nose at them at first! but i guess hunger took over! thanks again fingers crossed!

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.

Do you over feed the fish.
Does he look bloated.
Do you have a heater in the tank.

Also feed some frozen daphnia as it helps the fish digest its food.

Swim bladder is caused by gulping air, poor diet of to many dried foods, unstable temp, bad water quality, injury, birth defect of the swim bladder, bacterial infection of the swim bladder, internal parasites.

What colour is his waste.
Does his anus look enlarged or red and inflamed.
