Hi, my female dalmation molly who gave birth last week looks rather fat again, seems to be now floating head up tail down and the male molly keeps trying to do what i can only describe as eat her bottom?

any ideas?

Hee hee...sorry, I shouldn't laugh.
I don't have lots of help to offer, except, are you feeding floating or sinking foods? Or, more specifically, does your female feed from the surface? Gulping air while feeding can cause swim bladder (i know this doesn't help now, but might help you decide if it's swim bladder or not).... Have you checked out the pinned disease info?
Some medications do claim (not sure if it is true) to help with swim bladder, if you do decide that this is what she has, you may be able to treat- the sooner you get to her, probably the better.
I'd say your male is hassling her to mate, are there lots of plants/hiding places in your tank? If you end up seperating them with your breeding net, please take him out and leave her where she is....Stress will make her feel worse.
Do you have salt in your tank? (i probably should know, cos you've posted about your tank a few times. but sorry, i can't remember).
I wish i could give you a proper answer, but don't worry, i'm sure someone will be along soon who can.

ps, you could try feeding her shelled peas...

It does seem a bit comical I know, I think you may be right about being harrassed for some fish love lol

I have only really noticed her floating funny today, I feed floating flakes and algae wafers, have not really noticed her gulping but she does look a litle large so soon after giving birth?

she could still have more babies, my guppies (not really the same, i know) look perma-preggers and pretty much drop fry continually until a while after i remove the male. There's a thread a bit further down about a gourami with swim bladder, hang on a sec....

here it is, check this out and see what you think...
linkeroo

does any of this sound like you?
You could also try checking out the livebearers bit for info on molly pregnancy etc, to see if it could be the babies causing the problem, although tail-down doesn't sound like repro problems to me....
Hopefully someone will post soon who can give you better advice....

PEAS !!!
My Platty had this, although early stages. I think it was wilder who said try feeding peas, pop in em hot water for a mo(The pea not the fish) :) and then take it out the little cover and press the 2 halves into little squashy bits and drop em in.

It actually worked for mine. I feed them Brocolli and peas every week now, even my rams eat it and its very good for them

Good luck

you put me in illustrious company!
I'd better stop replying on this thread now, or it will have 122139346 posts of your thanks and my thanks for your thanks.....at least we are polite!

Just to provide a little more info;
Swimming head up tail down can also be related to poisoning (amongst others including brain tumours :X ) are the tank stats perfect?

No stats not perfect because I set up too early and found this site too late, but im doing my best to rectify things, hence rehoming the gibbi and algae eaters, looking at changing the RTBS and Gourami for more suitable tank mates and moving the cories to the fry tank. Im also doing daily water changes to deal with Nitrites and Nitrates.

Off hand im not sure what they are but I think roughly No2 was 2 and No3 was 40, ph is always between 7.0 and 7.5 and temp is always stable at 26 to 27.

She seems to be doing it a little less now, not sure if it was all the hassle from my randy male (and I thought with a pick of 3 women he wouldnt be fussy lol)

How much water are you changing daily?
Good that your getting it sorted straight away, i had a similar situation when i started.
Respect to you though, i was too stubborn to listen until my chrysophakedion convinced me otherwise....
