One of our fancy goldfish is having a hard time with the commercial foods (the pellets and crisps are especially bad). She'll get stuck at the top of the tank for hours after eating, even if I soak them first. This morning the poor dear was completely upside-down!!

Does anyone know of any non-live foods available for fish prone to this problem? I'm fasting them tonight and will give peas tomorrow for a start, but for the long run I'm open to suggestions. Don't know what a gel-based food is or where to get them, but I've read they can help? Other goldfish seem unaffected, and I hope to keep it that way....!

Thanks in advance for your help.

It depends, swim bladder illnesses are commonly due to bacterial infection so you may want to consider a gram+/gram- medication.

However if what i've been led to believe is correct, indigestion can be the cause of intestinal gas building up, which also results in swimming balance issues. This would be solved via less feeding and more greens in the diet, pea being particularly suitable. Daphinia also receives glowing reports when used for aiding with constipation.

I'm by no means 100% certain but i do think the 2 issues are entirely unrelated.

Thanks--that makes sense. She's doing fine again tonight but now I'm afraid to feed anything but vegetables!
