My female Black Skirt Tetra is acting a little weird. She looks like she has to correct her balance a lot more than usual. Also, in comparison to the other black skirts, she kind of bobs more than they do. So I'm thinking swim bladder. There is no bloating or anything. I'll have to get back to you on my water conditions as I forgot to test before I posted. I did just do a partial water change on Tuesday. If it is swim bladder, what do you recommend for treatment??

Thanks for any help

Gabe

Does nobody have any ideas at all??? Even the name of a med I can treat her with?? Come on people, my fish's life is on the line here :(

There is really no sure wayto sure it as far as I know. Sometimes it's not the bladder in particulr but inflamed internal organs. Giving peas, like Sea_Monster87 mentioned is a good thing to do. If possible, put into a quarantine tank for a couple weeks so it can be in shallower water and add salt. Keep pristine water conditions and feed as varied a diet as possible.

Thanks so much sea_monster and smb for your replys. Sorry I got a little worked up earlier.

I will see about seperating her from the others and getting some peas to feed her.

Thanks so much again.

Oh also, I thought salt was bad for Tetras???? She is a Black Skirt Tetra, would she be ok with salt? I don't want to hurt her any more than she already is.

Gabe,

I added salt 2 weeks ago and my black skirt tetras are the healthiest in the bunch. I use Doc Wellfish's Aquarium Salt. Directions say to use one tablespoon for every five gallons. I put a little less just to be on the safe side.
It's really cheap too, I paid $4.00 for a carton.
Good luck!
