I have a Sweetheart Parrot Fish in my 10 gallon tank with several other fish. I am beginning to think this is not a good idea. Can anyone tell me if this fish is aggressive and if it eats other fish.
Thanks

I dont know how all the guys picked over this one but you should definately get him out of that 20 gallon. They can get close to 6'' in length and they are definately agressive as they get older. If you really wanna keep him you should get him another tank probably in the 20-29 gallon range

they get larger than that I believe. Closer to 8 inches. I'd say 29 is the bottom end of the scale for keeping a parrot I'd go larger especially a pair. They are hybrids and like many hybrids tend to be infertile. The male has a 95% chance of being infertile. The female is fertile and can be bred with other fishes to further the hybridization. You can try pink convicts they make very attractive and extremely hardy fry known generally as jellybean parrots.

Oh and this should go in the hybrid forum. Some don't take to kindly to hybrids.

Thanks for the call out on that size difference, I think I was thinking jellybean's that get to be 6'' good thinking though!

your right about the size on jellybeans. They generally get from 4-6" sometimes smaller. however a pair can be housed quite happily in a ten gallon. I've done it and I have a friend who has successfully bred them multiple times in a ten gallon. Actually she says it's easier to get them to breed in a ten than in a 55. However you WILL need a seperate grow out tank. They breed like convicts. Which is to say the breed like guppies (minus the whole livebearer thing) and since this is in beginners that means they have lots and lots of babies
